VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Big Brothers & Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex is currently recruiting for two important programs that serve children who could benefit from a positive adult role model.

1.    The In-School Mentoring Program is a one to one relationship between an adult volunteer and an elementary school student who could benefit from a positive adult friendship. For one hour a week mentors meet at their mentee’s school and engage in a variety of activities such as board games, crafts, baking, sports, etc. This occurs during school hours, for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during school holidays.

2.    The County Community-Based Program is searching for interested volunteers residing in the county locations of Essex, Amherstburg, Kingsville, Leamington, Belle River, Harrow and Lakeshore who would like to provide a mentoring relationship to a child in need.  ‘Big Brothers’ and ‘Big Sisters’ are volunteer mentors ages 19 years and older who spend at least a few hours a couple times a month with their matched ‘Little’ out in the community for a minimum commitment of one-year.  Our agency’s objective is to provide mentors for young people who share similar interests, can meet a child’s need for companionship, as well as meet the requirements of the agency.
