Claim tax credits for your child’s fitness and arts activities
No matter whether your children are artistic or athletic, supporting their activities translates into a very busy family life. Between dropping your kids off at the rink and attending annual piano recitals, you’re sewing costumes and running out to get oranges for half-time snacks. Regardless of your children’s interests, save your receipts—signing up your kids for their favourite activities may save you money at tax time. Both the children’s fitness tax credit (cra.gc.ca/fitness) and the children’s arts tax credit (cra.gc.ca/artscredit) allow you to claim up to $500, per child, on the fees you’ve paid for eligible activities. This gives you a non-refundable credit of up to $75 per tax credit per child. That’s enough to tune up that violin or buy those new cleats for soccer. Or maybe you’ll decide to treat yourself with a spa or golf day.

Get and Stay Fit … “Healthy Body and an Alert Mind”
“A man’s health can be judged by which he takes two at a time – pills or stairs”. Joan Welsh

SLEEP HYGIENE: Never forget the importance of sleep – at least 7 hours per night – generates growth hormones. Those are the hormones that make you feel vital and young, look and feel sexy! If you don’t get your 7 hours of sleep it could lead to medical problems.
-
ELIMINATE FRAILTY = LIFT WEIGHTS: Frailty makes us fall prey to disease. Try yoga, weights, calisthenics, walking 30+ minutes a day…, start light and increase weekly.
-
GET MOVING = EXERCISE: Get off the couch and replace it with a stationary bike (add a stationary bike in your living or family room). Watch T.V. while you exercise… your mind will focus on the show and not the exercise.
-
HEALTHY EATING: Try eating more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts … eat more raw foods.
There is nothing more important than your health, so that should be your priority: whether its weight loss, stress reduction, or getting yourself evaluated to determine how you should be exercising and what supplements you should take.
