ORWP Update: Coordination of Benefits

Members have been reaching out to ask OREA how the Ontario REALTOR® Wellness Program (ORWP) will affect their existing coverage.

You’ll be able to use the ORWP to supplement and top up the insurance you currently have! Our goal was to ensure that the ORWP would enhance any existing benefits and provide Members with access to more coverage.

We know you may still have questions about how this will all work, so here’s a refresher on how to coordinate your benefits.

Coordinating your benefits

Coordination of Benefits (COB) ensures that health claims are processed correctly when multiple insurance plans are involved.

Here’s a chart that shows how it works:

Here is an example of how you would maximize your coverage in a situation where the ORWP is the first payer and a non-ORWP insurance plan is the second payer (i.e., having coverage through your partner):

If you have a $100 physiotherapist claim, you would first submit the claim to the ORWP, which would cover 70%, or $70, subject to eligibility. You would then submit the remaining balance of $30 to your additional insurance plan, along with an Explanation of Benefits statement, for payment.

Please note, drug, dental, and other types of claims are often coordinated automatically at the point of sale, which would eliminate the need for Members to manually submit claims to multiple providers.

As a reminder, Comprehensive Benefit Solutions (CBS), our Program Administrator, is offering a service to all Members to help you get your technical questions answered by a team of insurance experts. If you have any questions about your plan and how you can top up your coverage with the ORWP, please contact ProgramAdministrator@orwp.ca.

Special Meeting of the Association

OREA received a requisition for a Special Meeting of the Association by the required number of Member Boards. The requisition proposes certain amendments to the OREA By-law regarding the Ontario REALTOR® Wellness Program (“ORWP”).

As such, the OREA Board of Directors must now call a meeting of the Assembly within 21 days after receiving the requisition. In this regard, notice of the date and place of the Special Meeting of the Association will be provided within the next 21 days as required. We will continue to share information as and when it becomes available.
